10 Things to Love About Living in Sarnia (From a Local’s Perspective)

Hi, I’m Mack Mallon, realtor with Blue Coast Realty — and like many families here, I’ve come to really appreciate the pace, the people, and the lifestyle that Sarnia-Lambton offers. Whether you're new to the area or have lived here for years, there's something special about calling this place home.

Here are 10 reasons why I love living in Sarnia — and why you might love it, too.

1. The Perfect Pace of Life

Life in Sarnia feels balanced. There’s plenty to do, but it’s never overwhelming. For families like mine, it’s the perfect mix of “busy when you want it, calm when you need it.” Whether it’s an active day out or a quiet evening walk, Sarnia supports both.

2. Parks, Trails & Outdoor Fun

We’re surrounded by amazing outdoor spaces that make it easy to stay active. Some of our favorites include:

  • Howard Watson Trail

  • Canatara Park (and the trails running through it)

  • St. Clair River Trail

  • Tecumseh Splash Pad

  • CAP Park in Corunna

These are great for walking, biking, or just letting the kids burn off some energy.

3. Local Restaurants With Heart

Sarnia has a solid food scene — from family-friendly staples to international cuisine. Some personal go-tos include:

  • Giresi’s Pizza a local classic

  • Albert’s Fries, if you know you know

  • Back Home Coffee a fantastic locally owned coffee shop

  • Sitara for fantastic Indian food

  • Dockside in the summer (you can’t beat the waterfront setting)

  • Bad Dog for a great meal

4. A City That Feels Like Home

There’s something hard to explain about Sarnia — it just feels right. Maybe it’s the welcoming people, the small-town charm, or the fact that you’re always just a few minutes from nature, good food, and friendly faces. It’s a city that makes you feel like you belong.

5. A True Sense of Community

People here care. Whether it’s your neighbour checking in after a storm or a local business sponsoring a youth team, the community has your back. Sarnia is the kind of place where people wave, help out, and actually talk to each other.

6. Events That Bring People Together

There’s always something happening in and around Sarnia — from community events to cultural celebrations. A few local favorites include:

  • The BIGF Grand Fondo Cycling Event

  • The Aamjiwnaang Pow Wow

  • Canada Day parades and festivities
  • Revelree Music Fest

  • And of course, grabbing fries under the Blue Water Bridge in the summer — it’s a classic Sarnia tradition.

7. The Waterfront Lifestyle

Being close to both Lake Huron and the St. Clair River is a massive perk. Whether you're boating, kayaking, paddleboarding, fishing — or just enjoying the view — the water is a part of everyday life here.

8. Family-Friendly Living

From great schools to safe neighbourhoods and plenty of activities for kids, Sarnia is an easy place to raise a family. There's space to grow, learn, and explore — without the rush of a big city.

9. The Best of Both Worlds

Sarnia has the feel of a small town, but offers many of the amenities you'd expect from a larger city. From shopping and dining to schools and health care, you won’t feel like you’re missing out.

10. A Place Where People Look Out for Each Other

At the end of the day, what really makes Sarnia special is its people. It’s a community — plain and simple. And that’s something you don’t always find.

Whether you're thinking about moving here or just want to appreciate your home a little more — these are just a few of the reasons I’m proud to live and work in Sarnia.
